As the first computer science department established in Taiwan, the Department of Computer Science of National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) has distinguished itself through numerous achievements including the following:

  • Possess the largest, most diversified and highest achieving research faculty in Taiwan.
  • Rank number two among all computer science research institutes worldwide based on the number of software engineering research publications surveyed in 2005.
  • Outperform all domestic computer science departments by a wide margin to rank the 23th worldwide in terms of the total number of computer science papers published during the period of 1999-2009.
  • Rank number one domestically in the field of computer science in terms of number of SCI papers published per faculty member.
  • Wireless/Mobile Networks ranking in ESI index is number two worldwide in terms of number of SCI papers.
  • Surpass its domestic peers in terms of both total paper citations and individual paper citations per faculty member, with 39 faculty members having individual paper citation counts over one hundred.
  • Engage in more industrial collaborations than any departments among Taiwanese universities with partners including MediaTek, Intel, Cisco, ITRI, Realtek etc.
  • Exert powerful influences over Taiwanese information technology (IT) industry through prominent alumni.
  • Possess the largest number of faculty members holding eminent positions in international academic and professional societies such as fellows of IEEE, ACM, IET, IAPR and AAAS.
  • Produce more contest and award winners including the recipients of the Outstanding Research and Distinguished Research Fellow Awards of the National Science Council, and the Academic Excellency and Distinguished IT Professional Awards of the Ministry of Education.
  • Possess the first Fellow of IEEE, ACM, AAAS and IET.
  • Give birth to the first student entrepreneurial venture, The Wretch Album and Blog, in Taiwanese universities.

  • Start the first cross discipline Computer Science and Electrical Engineering undergraduate major in Taiwan.
